Isaiah 55

28 09 2009

My first foray into slam poetry.

Ho
All ye who thirst
Broke and about to burst
Who have lived through the worst
Societally cursed
In the Book of Oppression, well-versed
For you these words are foremost and first
This here is an invitation
To life, love, and satiation
To coronary liberation
That will surely cause palpitation
Or maybe even spontaneous lactation
Whatever your body may do
Be ready cuz my words stick like glue
And they are directed at you
The ones whose hopes for the future are few
This here is an invitation
To a meal of equalization
Where the mighty are brought low
And the meek are given room to grow
Where bellies distended
Are instead carefully mended
Where dignities are absolutely defended
Where bowing to earthly powers has ended
And now its royal knees that are bended
All needs are tended
Virtues commended
The food is splendid
And the races, genders, peoples are blended

The feast is free, whoever you be
Joy and peace are the entry fee
No need for a key
But the password, if you’re asked, is “Glee”
Because I have big news
That should be rough to refuse
Though people always confuse
My Will with a short fuse
Or my home with the pews
Or that I left my people
The Jews
And so they will accuse
Me of being a mere ruse
Because of the world’s dark hues
But the pain and suffering of this world
Were not on my cues
This is not the world I choose
What I propose is this
A covenant, a promise
Of life and bliss
A path avoiding the abyss
Sealed by a traitor’s kiss
But it requires letting go of
Self
Power
Regret
And fears
In order to understand the true nature of
Self
Power
Debt
And tears
And when you achieve
This feat, you’ll relieve
This world of its mischiev-ous
Need to believe
That it can self-conceive
When it struggles to self-perceive
That it only ever self-deceives
And thus always leaves
It all to me, like I’m that butler, (what’s his name? Oh yeah), Jeeves
They’re blind to my heart on my sleeves
They don’t see that it breaks whenever anyone grieves

But you
You my love
My sunshine from above
My olive-tree bearing dove
When push comes to shove
Seek me
If you are weary
Seek me
If you are
Partly-empty
Partly-cloudy
Seek me
For the wicked will forsake their ways
and the unrighteous will come
to the end of their days
Because here it seems crime pays
And life should consist of good lays
And good deeds are met with pepper sprays
Because here it seems
It is difficult to see me through the sinful haze
No matter how long you gaze
Religion puts me at the center of a maze
And tells you this life is just a phase
Because here it seems
The only innocence is when a child plays
Commitment is when a father stays
Civil service is what polls well in surveys
And all evil is because of the gays

But the unrighteous will come
To the end of their days
And the wicked will forsake their ways
And I will have mercy on them
“Unfair,” you say?
My thoughts are not your thoughts
Nor are my ways your ways
For as the heavens are higher
Than the earth
So are my ways higher
Than your ways
And my thoughts are higher
than your thoughts
These words
That I have spoken aloud
Are like seed for the birds
Or rain from a cloud
Nourishing creatures of the earth
Always working for rebirth
Forever fostering mirth
For you shall go out in joy
And be led forth in peace
The mountains and the hills
Shall burst into song before you
And all the trees of the fields
Shall clap their hands

God is Dog

8 09 2006

What should be sweet words of hope

Turn to ash in my mouth

A man of import

Becomes a a man of consequences

A God

Becomes a reflection in the rear-view mirror

I cannot, for the life of me,

Describe to God how

I cannot, for the afterlife of me,

Ascribe to the Bible, how it

Prescribes 2 Testaments of Jesus

And pray to Him the morning after

I often imagine

How this world is Hell for women

And Hell for men is an Earth

Where Eve came first

Or a world where Jesus was not a Christian

But a Jew

And his last name wasn’t Christ

But Bar-Joseph

Evil is to Live backwards

Thus

God is a Dog

I hope I get over this soon
